[Irvine, United States, July 28, 2022] Qcells donated solar modules to Studio 804, a program offered by the University of Kansas Department of Architecture, providing students and professionals hands-on learning experiences in sustainable building in the local area.
Studio 804 offers Master of Architecture students, transfer students and professionals in the local community the opportunity to design and construct energy-efficient and eco-friendly buildings throughout the course of a nine-month academic term. Participants are involved in all aspects of the building process including handling of construction documents to working with permitting officials and pouring concrete. All work is done by the program participants, ensuring a truly immersive and comprehensive education in design and construction.
This Spring, Qcells donated 32 US assembled Q.PEAK DUO BLK ML-G10+ modules to Studio 804, 15 of which would be used for this year’s “Indiana Street House” new home build project in Lawrence, Kansas completed this past May. The home is outfitted with a 6kWh grid-tied solar PV system capable of offsetting 82% of the average home energy consumption in Kansas. LEED Platinum Certification is also pending for the new home build.
Dan Rockhill, Professor of Architecture at the University of Kansas and founder of Studio 804 said: “We are pleased to partner with Qcells, a leader in clean energy solutions. Their commitment to performance and optimal aesthetics in their products made Qcells a great fit for the sustainable home our participants completed this year.”
David Shin, President of Qcells North America, said: “Qcells is proud to support Studio 804, providing educational opportunities for students and community members to enhance their knowledge of sustainable design and construction through this unique hands-on experience. Prioritizing eco-friendly buildings is a critical task for ensuring a more sustainable future, and we’re thrilled to see this example of energy efficiency come to life.”
